Abu Dhabi, UAE – March 9, 2026: The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has publicly acknowledged that the nation is in a period of war and promised that the country will come out stronger and more resilient. His comments came during a televised address on Saturday evening, after a series of recent missile and drone strikes on UAE territory linked to the wider conflict in the Middle East.
Speaking from a hospital in Abu Dhabi where he met injured civilians, the President said that while the region is facing serious challenges, the UAE remains well prepared and determined. He emphasised that the country is not weak or vulnerable, telling adversaries that the UAE has “thick skin and bitter flesh” and that the nation is no easy prey.
Recent Attacks and National Impact
The warlike situation intensified after Iran launched missile and drone attacks on the UAE beginning on 28 February 2026. According to official defence sources:
- 189 ballistic missiles were detected as of early March.
- The UAE’s air defence systems intercepted the vast majority of these missiles.
- 941 drone attacks were also recorded during the same period.
Despite the high number of attacks, the civilian impact was limited by effective defence systems. Reports show that four people were killed and 112 people were injured as a result of falling debris and shrapnel from interceptions.
UAE Response and Promises from Leadership
During his visit to those wounded in the attacks, President Sheikh Mohamed underlined unity and national strength. He thanked the armed forces, interior ministry, security services, and civil defence for their role in protecting the country and its people during this difficult period.
The President also stressed that all residents of the UAE, including expatriate communities, are valued members of the nation and will continue to be protected. He promised that the government will fulfil its duty to safeguard every person who lives in the country.
Unity and Strategic Defiance
In clear words meant to reassure both citizens and residents, the President stated that the UAE will not be intimidated by conflict. He reiterated that the nation will emerge stronger than before, showing confidence in both military strength and national solidarity.
These remarks come as tensions across the Gulf region remain high, with neighbouring countries also facing the spillover effects of the wider Middle East conflict. The UAE’s position reflects a strategic stance of firm defence combined with continued stability and resilience in the face of external threats.
